Are website builders good for SEO at all?

Are website builders good for SEO at all?

The questions above were a Summary of this guide :

Many complain about the performance of website builders on search engines. Some claim that they are impossible to rank with. They’re no different than other website-building tools. What matters is how you use them.

It is simple: time and effort are the keys to success. It’s true, however, that these tools can have some limitations and are not suitable for SEO-heavy tasks. We believe that most problems stem from poor or non-existent SEO strategies.

This guide is for newcomers and focuses on SEO for web builders like Jimdo, Webnode Wix, Wix, and Weebly. We’ll also answer basic SEO questions along the way. Let’s begin by briefly introducing the topic.

What is SEO?

SEO is a collection of techniques that can help websites rank higher on search engines (e.g., Google or Bing). Google and Bing. The ultimate goal is to improve visibility and ranking in the top search engines. This will result in more clicks and more people visiting your site. Paid traffic is not the same as organic traffic (e.g., Google AdWords, Facebook Ads, etc. Visitors resulting from your SEO efforts (also called organic traffic) will be free.

You might be wondering: “Wait, a second, free?” You may be asking, “What’s the catch?” There is a catch. You are not the only one interested in SEO: Many websites compete for organic traffic. Many spend significant time and resources trying to improve their search ranking.

It’s not free. Keep reading to learn more about search engines and how website builders can help improve your SEO performance.

This video will provide more information about the basics of SEO.

How can I reach the top?

Search engine results are displayed hierarchically. The higher you rank, the more clicks you get and your visits. You can expect around 60% of clicks if your search engine results page is rated #1. This drops sharply to 15.8% for #2 and 7.9% for #3 ( Source).

How does a search engine determine who ranks number one?

Happy users are what search engines seek. Search engines want delighted users. This means search engines will try to give users a list of sites that work well and have relevant high-quality content. It sounds simple.

Let’s now take a closer look at the key factors:

The keyword: The center of the (search), the universe

SEO begins with a keyword. It could be called the Higgs boson particle in SEO…but I’m no science buff, so don’t quote.

Keywords are the search terms that users enter to find what they want. It’s pretty accurate.

If you can only take one thing away from this article, it should not be this:

To rank for variants, you can also add secondary keywords (e.g., Red automobiles with white stripes.

Before publishing any content, you should conduct keyword research using Google’s Keyword Planner. Once you have decided on your primary keyword, you can post it. You typically look at the competition’s search volumes and intensity for potential keywords.

Does that sound confusing? Don’t panic! You can find detailed tutorials to help you through this process. Check out this video:

It is complicated for Google to rank keywords search volumes. You can still use other tools to assist you. Check tools like Keyword ToolAhrefsSEMrush or Ubersuggest.

On-Page vs. off-page SEO

Google and your user are most interested in the content of your website. This is On-Page optimization. Your web page must be helpful to your visitor. Video and audio can enhance your content and make it stand out from the rest. This article contains a comprehensive list of relevant On-Page optimization techniques.

But that’s only one aspect of the story. Search engines aren’t smart enough to determine content Quality by running it through supercomputers. They require another signal—off-page optimization.

Google’s guys discovered this a long time ago: Websites with more links from other websites (a.k.a. backlinks) offer higher Quality than sites with fewer links. Since then, search engines have paid much more attention to this metric.

You can’t do much on your site to get other sites to link to it except create high-quality content. But you can run campaigns (e.g., These are Offpage SEO. Search engines won’t like every “technique” out there, especially if it’s questionable (e.g., Backlinks can be bought. If you need more information about this topic, please refer to this Moz article.

Choose your keywords wisely to avoid being in the midst of competition.

Internet is highly competitive. Be careful when selecting keywords and avoid creating a competitive environment. It isn’t easy to rank high in a competitive market. If you type, getting the job done won’t be easy.

In less competitive environments, you might be able to stay at the top for several weeks, months, or even years without much effort. It would help if you did your research to achieve this.

Imagine that you are opening a restaurant. What would you choose? Would you prefer the small-town street with seven restaurants? Is opening a new restaurant an intelligent business move? I don’t know about you, but I would bet my cash on a fishmonger or butcher who can deliver food to restaurants. The basic principles of supply-demand govern search engine rankings.

Website builders & SEO: Set it up for success

We wanted to provide an overview of a few essential aspects of SEO. We are now ready to discuss whether website builders can do a great job of SEO and, if yes, which one to choose.

We will only discuss On-Page SEO aspects. Off-page optimization can be done independently of which tool you use. Moz is an excellent reference in this field. We’ve included some of the most important on-page elements in this table.

ElementComment

Comment

Title Page

The title is displayed in search engine results. The targeted keyword should appear as close to the start of the sentence as possible.

Headings

These are the headings on the page. In the headers, include the targeted keyword. Having hierarchical, structured titles (e.g., H1, H2, H3, etc. ) is good.

Text for the Body

The main keyword should be repeated in the body of the page or article. However, it is essential not to overdo it. It can make the text seem unnatural. Use synonyms if possible.

URL

Google loves to see the keyword in the URL. For example, if you target "pizza recipes," try something like this: www.mysite.com/pizza-recipes.

Images name & alt attribute Images are vital.

Search engines cannot read the content of photos, so they rely only on the name and alt attribute.

If you have an image that depicts a red car, then a name like "red-car.jpeg." is better than "image9884.jpeg". Also, add the keyword to the alt attribute for images. While here, ensure that your photos are optimized for the internet using TinyPNG.

Link structure

It should take less than four clicks to get from one page to the next on your website. Google and other search engines can navigate your site (crawl) if you have more pages linked together.

Meta Description

This is the brief blurb that appears under the page title in search engines. Although this element is no longer as essential as it was, adding your keyword here is still important.

Instructions for searching engines Sometimes,

pages don't need to be indexed. Pages with private content, such as the 'contact us" page, are not indexed. It's helpful to have a site creator that makes it difficult for search engines to show a page.

We haven’t covered all the technical aspects. Optimizing your images for size, providing a great user experience, and other technical aspects are all things we haven’t covered. You can find more information on the free resource page in our SEO section.

website builders good for SEO

Some website builders offer even more advanced features, such as integrating custom scripts into pages, adding canonical tags, and integrating them with Google Analytics. You can install Google Analytics or set pages to “no index.” You can even see the live Google results snippet of your page in Google. The essential features of the page are what you need to know to develop an effective SEO strategy.

What about WordPress?

WordPress is limitless. All the areas mentioned above can be edited. You’ll need plugins because WordPress is not ready for SEO.

Recommendable plugins include Yoast and All-In-One SEO. Yoast is our preferred choice for all of our websites, as it has a few more features than AIO SEO. Both will let you edit the URLs of your articles, page title and meta descriptions, as well as other features.

SSL encryption will need to be arranged with your hosting company. (Check out the best affordable WordPress hosts or the best inexpensive web hosting), but this is usually included at no cost.

Finally, 301 redirects can be done using your hosting company’s backend, if they offer it, or by purchasing another plugin. 301 Redirects- Easy Redirect Manager is our favorite plugin for this.

This is all you need to do to win the SEO game with WordPress.

SEO for website builders – their limitations

It’s great to be able to publish and host a website accessible. It does have some limitations. Some of these can have a significant impact on SEO.

  • Your website can be built on a free website building site. www.your-page.weebly.com). It will be more challenging to rank if you don’t have your domain.
  • Website builders often save the most advanced SEO options for premium tiers. Users who are ‘Jimdo Free” will not be able set their Title tag or meta-description tags for the homepage.

This checklist will help you ensure that your SEO is rock solid.

It can sometimes be challenging to remember all elements that must be optimized. We’ve compiled a list of SEO basics you should be focusing on for your website and web pages:

  1. Google Search Console and Google Analytics can be installed.
  2. Each article should focus on one primary keyword and two secondary keywords.
  • In your content, include the targeted keywords in the headings and text.
  • The meta-description and title tag should contain the primary keyword.
  • Your primary keyword should be displayed in the URL of your page (e.g., www.mysite.com/my-keyword)
  • If possible, include keywords in the alt text for your images.
  • You should ensure that one of the image’s filenames contains the primary keyword (e.g., my-keyword-image.png)
  1. Double-check that your pages have been set up to be indexed via Google.
  2. To improve the Speed of loading :
  • If you display the images in a small format, resize them to the correct dimensions.
  • Use our Image Compression tool to optimize your images for the web.
  1. Google is annoyed by broken links, so be sure to remove them. These links can be used to help you locate them.
  2. When possible, link between pages to make it easier for search engines to find new content.
  3. Make a sitemap for your website. Please submit it to Google Search Console.
  4. Submit your website to Google.

This list will help you to get started with your Off-Page SEO efforts.

What other tools do I need besides the website builder?

Many SEO-focused tools are available, and they come in many different flavors. Only a few of these tools are essential to us (and they’re all completely free!

  • Web analytics Without tracking your results, it is impossible to gauge the success of your SEO efforts. Many other tools exist, but Google Analytics is the most widely used and easy to install. For more information, visit the Google Analytics support page. Most website builders offer an easy way to install it.

  • Although there are many search engines available, let’s face it, Google is the most popular in the majority of countries. So, focus your attention on Google Search Console. You might consider adding Google Search Console to the site. This tool will assist you in identifying SEO problems and speed up your Google indexation. For more information, please visit Google Search Console Support.
  • You can get the Ahrefs SEO Toolbar instantly. It also allows you to see non-personalized Google Search results. You can even do a page analysis to check your alt text and SEO titles. It is possible.
  • SERP tracking tool is a must if you wish to track more keywords. This tool will keep track of your positions.

Last thoughts: Are website builders trustworthy for the SEO job?

Website builders have been working to improve their SEO abilities. It is now possible to work with a website developer and rank for a competitive keyword.

But what about Wix? alright, we have made it to the top of Google’s rankings for “HTML5 website builder” with this small page,. John Mueller, a Google employee, stated that Wix websites are fine for search. Our Wix SEO Guide has more information.

How easy or hard is it to rank keywords with a website builder? It all depends on you. SEO, like many sciences, is a complex science that requires knowledge, time and effort. While you will make mistakes in choosing the right keywords and targeting them, it is possible to learn from these mistakes.

Although not all website builders have the same capabilities, most offer the essential SEO features you need. Our view shows Squarespace offers most of the SEO features you need. We are concerned about their loading times. They seem to have a slower loading rate than the average. Surprisingly, some websites (e.g., The Architect’s Guide rank relatively high for competitive keywords.

Webnode does not offer 301 redirects, and some templates do not have an SEO-friendly heading structure. It’s otherwise not terrible.

Weebly works better, but we would like to see a better system implemented for heading structures (e.b. H1, H2, H3, etc.). Finally, Jimdo or Wix have more flexibility and include most of the features you need to rank highly in Google.
